Course Learning Outcomes

1. Identify and describe the key morphological features (e.g., leaf shape, bark texture, bud arrangement, flower structure) used to distinguish woody plant species
2. Demonstrate knowledge of botanical nomenclature and taxonomy as it applies to the classification and naming of woody plants
3. Accurately identify over 150 woody plants (trees, shrubs, vines, etc.) common in landscapes and native habitats
4. Be familiar with common woody plant disorders and treatments
5. Evaluate plant selection based on site conditions, ecological function, and landscape value
6. Prepare a collection of individual study and present observations with the class
7. Observations will be prepared in a way that can be physically presented in a display
