Course Learning Outcomes

1. Becoming familiar with slavery in a global context, and to analyze the comparative dimensions that made slavery in the Islamic world different.
2. To analyze the different forms of the institutions of slavery, clientage, and concubinage in Islamic History.
3. Developing the reading skills necessary to navigate primary source materials and engage critically with secondary scholarship.
4. To practice critical thinking skills to view topics through several lenses to avoid misconceptions and biases based on one’s own values and judgements.
