Course Learning Outcomes

Students will describe, discuss and/or apply:
1. Court cases, which have had a major impact on special education—e.g., Rowley, Tatro, Honig, Timothy W., Smith v. Armstrong.
2. Rules governing the identification and evaluation of children and youth who may be eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
3. Rules governing the development of Individual Education Plans and placement determination for children and youth who are eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
4. Rules governing the development of Transition Plans for children and youth who are eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
5. Rules governing the conduct of Manifestation Determinations for children and youth who are eligible for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act.
6. Duties and responsibilities of parents, school personnel, and community agencies in relation to provision of special education services.
7. Cultural perspectives that influence parent participation in the planning and implementation of their child’s special education program.
8. The relationship between Section 504, ADA, and ESEA/Common Core requirements and the requirements of IDEIA 2004
