Course Learning Outcomes

1. Analyze and critique current research on children's and young adult literature, including with fiction and non-fiction texts and in multiple disciplines. 2. Discuss and critique various scholarly works/articles and professional videos about the motivation and engagement aspects of teaching with trade books. 3. Review and discuss current research-based instructional strategies for comprehending and conversing aout children's or young adult literature in the classroom. 4. Critically evaluate a variety of children's and young adult books using a variety of tools including professional books, journals, and the internet, for potential use in classrooms. 5. Design a research project related to teaching with children's or young adult literature, either fiction or non-fiction, in a content area of interest.
