College of Veterinary MedicineCollege of Veterinary Medicine

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Learn the correct vocabulary to identify microscopic and gross anatomical structures as well as develop fluency with the scientific and medical terminology, and appropriate lay terminology, to begin fostering the skills necessary to communicate with educators, peers, colleagues, and clients.
2. Recognize, describe, and be able to discuss the normal microscopic and gross anatomy of organs and organ systems and how the structure relates to their functions.
3. Discuss the current fundamental concepts of cell structure and function, control, and interactions of organs and tissues, as well as the broad aspects of physiology as they relate to physiological adaptation.
4. Use light and electron microscopy along with gross dissection to recognize and identify and correlate the components of cells, tissues, and organs of the animal body.
5. Recognize and describe the cellular and extracellular composition of the basic tissues of the animal body and understand their functions and interrelationships.
6. Begin to logically predict, explain, and visualize the consequences of dysfunction of cells, tissues, organs, and physiologic processes. Provide clinical contexts to make the importance of normal anatomic structures meaningful. It is important to know the normal anatomy before you can begin to understand the consequences of abnormal anatomy (e.g. pathology).
