Auditing Classes

  • Auditing is dependent on course capacity, resource availability, and instructor approval.

  • Audited courses receive no credit or grade points on the transcript.

  • Audit requests are not permitted prior to the first day of classes for any given semester.

  • Once a course is approved for audit, students may not later request to receive credit for the course except by officially retaking the course and completing all required coursework.

  • The deadline for audit requests is the “Adding Classes” deadline, which coincides with the “Last Day to Drop without Notation on Transcript” deadline. Students who drop a course after this deadline will receive a “W” (withdrawal) grade and are not allowed to continue auditing the course.

Students

Admitted students may request to register for a course as an auditor. Regular tuition, delivery fee(s), and course fee(s) will be assessed when auditing a course.

House Bill 60

House Bill 60 (1977) permits Utah residents 62 years of age or older to audit regular university classes. A flat fee of $10 per semester is charged for House Bill 60 (1977) students as well as any course fee(s), including delivery fee, or special fee(s) associated with the audited course.

Senate Bill 0045

Senate Bill 0045 (2021) allows eligible veterans to audit classes at institutions of higher education if the veterans are Utah residents and meet certain qualifications. A flat fee of $10 per semester is charged for SB45 students as well as any course fee(s), including delivery fee, or special fee(s) associated with the audited course.

Utah State Employees

Utah State (USU) employees should refer to USU policy 350 2.5 regarding eligibility for the tuition benefit to audit a course at no cost, except for any course fee(s), including delivery fee, or special fee(s) associated with the audited course.
