Overview

The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education Department provides instruction to students seeking a certificate, an associate, and/or a baccalaureate degree. Our programs are career-focused and allow students to gain expertise in the fields of business skills, health professions, outdoor product design and development, and trades and technology.

The Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education has faculty members located in Logan, Brigham City, and the USU-Eastern campuses in Price, Moab, and Blanding. Students are encouraged to enhance their education through hands-on applications using specialized classrooms and laboratories throughout the state. The department embraces technology and accessibility and offers many classes and several programs with some online options. Additionally, various industries and communities are served by career and technical certifications offered through Workforce Education programs.

Full details of the learning objectives, assessment plan, student outcomes, and evidence of continuous improvement for these programs of study can be found at caas.usu.edu/tdte/assessment.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide introduction, discovery, and mastery of skills as they relate to business skills, health professions, outdoor product design and development, and trades and technology. Working together, we cultivate the professionals of tomorrow by using proven educational processes, which include formal and informal instruction, experiential learning, leadership, and personal development at the certificate, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, and community-based levels, including stackable credentials.

The department brings enthusiasm to the mission of Utah State University in supporting student-centered instruction. We believe in teaching students to be contributing members of their communities and societies.

Requirements

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for the Department of Technology, Design, and Technical Education are the same as those described for the university for incoming freshmen and most transfer students. Technical Education programs in the Southeast are recognized as open enrollment and do not require a minimum high school GPA or ACT/SAT score for admission. See individual program listings and advisors for additional information and requirements.

University Honors Program

The University Honors Program offers students in all colleges and majors the unique opportunity to deepen their educational experience with hands-on practical applications of their academic knowledge. The Honors Program admits incoming, transfer, and existing USU students based on application. High-achieving students with at least one year remaining are encouraged to apply. See the University Honors Program catalog entry and website (honors.usu.edu) for more information.
