The PhD degree is available only at Utah State University’s main campus. All students must complete the online Responsible Conduct of Research Social and Behavioral Module at  http://research.usu.edu/irb/training.

School of Graduate Studies Requirements:

Degree Verification: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a similarly recognized international university is required for admission to and completion of a graduate program. An official transcript must be sent directly to the School of Graduate Studies.
Overall Graduate GPA at least 3.0 and no grades of C- or lower: Graduate students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA for degree-program courses. Grades of C- or lower will not be accepted for a graduate degree.
Course Number Acceptability:
- The Program of Study for PhD must include at least 15 semester credits at the level of 6000 or above. With approval, students can take up to 12 credits at the 5000 level.
- Credits in the following areas are not acceptable: Foreign languages (unless included in an approved Program of Study), continuing graduate advisement, individual home study, military science, and course numbers below 5000.
Matriculation Start Semester: The PhD degree must be completed within eight years of entering the program. Additional time may be requested by the student’s committee and submitted to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies for review. If classes are older than eight years, Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences does not re-validate, courses must be retaken instead.
Coursework Validity: Coursework over eight years old at the time of degree completion may not be used for a graduate degree unless it is revalidated by the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies.

Program Requirements:

All courses require a grade of C or better and students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Planning sheets with course semester availability are available on the ITLS website at cehs.usu.edu/itls/.
The PhD degree program requires a minimum of 48 credits with a master’s degree in this field. A minimum of 54 credits, including ITLS master’s core courses, are required for students with a master’s degree in a field other than Instructional Technology or Learning Sciences. Students who do not have a master’s degree will be required to complete a minimum of 70 credits, including ITLS master’s core courses. Students have 8 calendar years to complete all degree requirements.
