Completion requirement

  • A Cumulative USU GPA of 2.8 or higher is required in Engineering Foundations courses.

  • Engineering Foundations courses: Math 1210, Math 1220, ENGR 1010, ENGR 1400, PHYS 2210, PHYS 2215, CHEM 1210, CHEM 1215 require a grade of C- or higher.

  • The P/D+, D, F grading option may not be used in required courses completed as part of Engineering Foundations program. (The P/D+, D, F grading option is approved for University Studies Courses.)

Complete ALL of the following Courses:

  • A Cumulative USU GPA of 2.8 or higher is required in pre-professional courses, NOT including course or course

  • All courses require a grade of C- or higher.

  • The P/D+, D, F grading option may not be used in required courses completed as part of Engineering Foundations or a pre-professional program. (The P/D+, D, F grading option is approved for University Studies Courses.)

Complete ALL of the following Courses:

course/ENGL2020 is not included in the Pre-Professional Program GPA calculation

*Students must take a minimum of 15 credit hours (5 courses) worth of technical electives. If a student takes ENGR 1010 in their first 30 credits of the Pre-Professional Program, they are only required to take 12 credit hours (4 courses) worth of technical electives.

For Mechanical Engineering majors in the professional program the following academic regulations apply, in addition to University regulations:

  • A Cumulative USU GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in all upper-division required and technical elective courses. Courses which were part of the pre-professional program requirements and University Studies courses are not included in this GPA calculation.

  • All courses require a grade of C- or higher.

  • No more than one total repeat is allowed for each required or technical elective course. Courses completed as part of a pre-professional program are not included in this total. Audits count as a time taking a class and will be counted towards repeats.

  • Students must take a minimum of 15 credit hours (5 courses) worth of technical electives. The course that is used to fulfill the major requirement will not also fulfill the technical elective requirement; students must take an additional course from the specified list to fulfill the technical elective requirement

Mechanical engineering technical elective courses must be selected from any of the following courses. At least two must have an MAE prefix.

Complete ANY of the following Courses:

*Students must take either course or course to fulfill the major requirements. The course that is used to fulfill the major requirement will not also fulfill the technical elective requirement; students must take an additional course from the specified list to fulfill the technical elective requirement
