The purpose of the School Library Media Administration (SLMA) program is to provide both pre and in-service teachers with the courses necessary to meet the requirements for library media K-12 endorsement as a school library media specialist/teacher in the state of Utah. It is assumed that the individual seeking teacher endorsement in library media holds, or is working toward, licensure as a classroom teacher. Students enrolled in the teacher education program at either the elementary or secondary education level at Utah State University may elect the program as an undergraduate minor.

Other majors may choose this as a minor.

Completion of the coursework does not automatically guarantee a recommendation by the Instructional Technology & Learning Sciences Department to the Utah State Office of Education. A recommendation for the library media K-12 endorsement will be made when the student has:

Approval of the practicum advisor
Completed the program courses with a 3.0 GPA or higher
Demonstrated competency in all coursework
Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively with students and teachers
