About this Degree

This degree provides students with a background in special education and accomplishes two purposes. First, as a stand-alone degree, it prepares students to work as teacher’s aides, special education paraprofessionals, and direct support professionals providing support to special education and general education teachers through the delivery of specialized curriculum, behavior interventions, and a variety of support activities related to the education and care of students with disabilities. Second, this degree provides a foundation for continued study toward a bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary Education or Secondary Education. Students pursuing general education degrees would benefit from instructional and behavioral strategies to meet the needs of students with disabilities in the general education classroom.
