Core Principles and Learning Outcomes:

  • Understanding of the differences between social race and biological race.

  • Understanding of the sociocultural, political, global, and scientific histories that established the fallacy of biological races in humans.

  • Understanding of systemic and institutional racism.

  • Identification of current issues in which racism, social race, and their connections to environmental contexts are factors, consideration of intersectionality in understanding those issues, and exploration of avenues for engagement with such issues.

  • Awareness of the interplay between race, racism, and environment, from the local to the global.

  • Interdisciplinary awareness of efforts to increase public knowledge and cultural competence related to issues of race and racism.

  • Proficiency in communicating concepts related to race and racism to diverse audiences.

  • Awareness of how the minor informs future plans for study, employment, and community engagement.
