About this Degree
The program in Translation and Interpretation Studies provides durable and long-lasting skills useful in healthcare, legal, business, diplomacy, and education spheres. The program integrates micro-credentials in medical interpretation, court interpretation, translation, and localization. The program offers experiential learning, with real-life, hands-on, work-based learning experiences by providing meaningful activities and community engagement. With the growing demand for qualified translators and interpreters in Utah and across the United States, this BA provides the necessary skills in fields that have high demand in the industry. Students complete industry-specific training and develop durable skills in intercultural competence, communication, localization, analysis, problem solving, and critical thinking. Faculty feature accomplished professional translators and interpreters. The active student club, Aggie Translators & Interpreters, provides valuable practice and networking opportunities. The department of World Languages & Cultures offers many opportunities for scholarships, study abroad, experiential learning, community engaged learning, and cultural activities.
The curriculum offers the choice of two tracks: one in Healthcare Translation and Interpretation, and one in Legal & Business Translation and Interpretation. Graduates of this program are poised to make a significant economic impact, filling critical roles in healthcare settings, legal proceedings, global and local business and industry, classrooms, and community services.

The highest math requirement for this degree is the Quantitative Literacy (QL) of the student’s choice.
