School of Graduate Studies General Graduation Guidelines:

Degree Verification: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U. S. college or university or a similarly recognized international university is required for admission to and completion of a graduate program.

Overall Graduate GPA: At least 3.0 and no grades of C- or lower. Graduate students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA for degree-program courses. Grades of C- or lower will not be accepted for a graduate degree.

Course Number Acceptability: The Program of Study for a master’s degree must include at least 18 semester credits at the level of 6000 or above. The program of study may include up to 12 semester credits of 5000 level courses.

Matriculation Start Semester: A master’s degree must be completed within six years of entering the degree program. Additional time may be requested and submitted to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies for review.

Coursework Validity: Coursework over eight years old at the time of degree completion may not be used for a graduate degree unless it is revalidated.

Department Requirements:

A grade of B- or better is required on all major courses and pedagogical content knowledge courses. Students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.

At the conclusion of the program, each student must complete/submit the following:

Licensure Information:

Utah State Board of Education (USBE) licensure requirements included content endorsement courses and pedagogy courses before taking your Methods/Clinical courses. See USBE endorsement site for more information regarding the licensure requirements. Depending on your bachelor's degree, satisfying licensure requirements may vary and include additional courses. See the Teacher Education and Leadership Advisor with the MST advising area for more information.

The content/pedagogy courses are required for USU to recommend teaching licensure to the USBE, however, they do not fulfill master's requirements.
