Degree Verification: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a similarly recognized international university is required for admission to and completion of a graduate program. An official transcript must be sent directly to the School of Graduate Studies.
Overall Graduate GPA at least 3.0 and grades of B- or better (in all degree-program coursework) are required: Graduate students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA for degree-program courses. Grades of C- or lower will not be accepted for a graduate degree according to the School of Graduate Studies. Only grades of B- or better are accepted for the Computer Science PhD degree.
Course Number Acceptability: The program of study for a PhD degree cannot include more than 12 semester credits of courses below the 6000-level and must include at least 12 credits of 6000-level courses for the PhD with an MS Plan or 21 credits of 6000-level courses for the PhD with a Bachelor’s plan.
A PhD degree must be completed within eight years of entering the degree program. Additional time may be requested by the student’s advisor and submitted to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies for review.
Coursework Validity: Coursework over eight years old at the time of degree completion may not be used for a graduate degree unless it is revalidated.
Course Plan and Credits: PhD students with an MS degree are required to take 40 credits. PhD students with a BS degree are required to take 70 credits.
CS5050/CS6050: All CS graduate students are required to take CS5050/CS6050 or have taken a course equivalent of CS5050 with a grade of B- or above from an ABET-accredited university.
Required courses: Students must take one class in each of the following course areas: Foundations, Data Analytics, or Applications/Systems. Students who already have an MS degree may request a waiver for one or more of the required Foundations, Data Analytics, or Applications/Systems courses.
